Malelane - Gateway to the Kruger National Park

The picturesque farming town of Malelane lies on the banks of the Crocodile River and on the border of the world-renowned Kruger National Park in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. Visitors to Malelane come to appreciate the true meaning of the phrase “Sunny South Africa” as the area enjoys a hot climate, with azure blue skies brushed by wisps of white cloud being the order of the day.

With its strategic position allowing easy access to the Kruger National Park through the Malelane Gate, and being en-route to the Komatipoort border post between Mozambique and South Africa, visitors are often pleasantly surprised that Malelane has not lost its small town charm and laid-back atmosphere. In addition to the income derived from tourism, the thriving sugarcane and tropical fruit farming industries are the lifeblood of this close-knit community where families have known one another for generations.

A number of game lodges and small private game reserves are scattered around the outskirts of the town, and many visitors choose to stay at these, making day trips into the Kruger National Park, as well as using Malelane as a base for exploring the Lowveld and Wild Frontier of the Mpumalanga Province. Due to the fact that Malelane caters for the tourist trade, major South African chain stores have set up shop in Malelane, ensuring that visitors staying at self-catering establishments will have no problem buying daily essentials, as well as stocking up on snacks and refreshments before setting out on a day of exploring the natural wonders of this beautiful area.

It goes without saying that the main attraction near Malelane is the Kruger National Park, which offers visitors an unforgettable African wildlife experience. Also close by is the Leopard Creek Golf Course which has been designed to blend perfectly into the surroundings and preserve the beauty of the natural environment. In addition to offering a challenge to golfers, the golf course is a true birding enthusiast’s paradise. Certainly a visit to Malelane and its surroundings can prove to be a deeply rewarding experience for nature lovers.
