Bela-Bela - Holiday at the Hot Springs

Approximately a hundred kilometers from Johannesburg, is a majestic town that lies nestled in the Limpopo Province. It is where most people in South Africa would rather live, due to its beautiful surroundings and great natural features; it is the town of Bela-Bela. With ample wildlife, sporting activities and of course the hot springs, Bela-Bela has become a popular vacation destination for local and international visitors.

The geo-thermic springs, after which the town was first named Warmbad, were originally discovered by the Tswana tribe in the 1800’s. In the year 1873, a resort was built next to the hot water springs, which is still a well visited spa today, due to the healing properties of the water. The land that surrounds Bela-Bela is also perfect for agriculture, providing farms and game reserves with enough fertile land to run their establishments on. The game reserves in the area offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy hiking trails, go on game drives or brave the wild on guided game walks. Some of the reserves that visitors have to choose from include Mabalingwe Game Reserve, Mabula Game Reserve, Marakele National Park, Nylsvley Nature Reserve and Shakama Game Farm.

Other activities and attractions in Bela-Bela include The Rhino Museum, golf, bird watching and challenges such as the annual Bela Bela Lion Man Mountain Bike Race and the Rooiberg Eco Ride.
