George Golf Club - A Complete Golfing Experience
George Golf Club has certainly been one of the biggest golfing developments in South Africa recently. It has quickly become known as a fantastic golfing venue with a fantastic 72 par, 18 hole golf course. Located along the Cape Garden Route, George Golf Club is surrounded by absolute beauty and is a great stop for vacationers who are also golfing fanatics.
George Golf Club offers an all-round enjoyable golfing experience. The Course is rated at 70 (club) or 72 (championship) for men and 72 for the ladies. Let us have a brief look at the 18 holes. The first hole is picturesquely set amidst trees, but is also quite a challenge with the carefully placed bunker. Hole 2 stands at par 5 with a difficult tee shot through some trees. The third hole requires an accurately placed drive so as to avoid trees and a bunker. Hole for is a par 4 with bunkers on both the left and right of the fairway and golfers are recommended to use a long iron or fairway wood. Number 5 features attractive trees to the right, but not any other major obstacles. The sixth hole is a par 3 with a big bunker on one side of the green and a mound on the right. Hole four is rated at par 4 with stroke 1 and offers a fantastic panorama of the mountain. Eight has a challenging left-hand bend with strategically placed trees and bunkers. Hole nine is another par 4 and is considered very intimidating with its great trees and a lateral hazard. Number 10 is characterized by the large lines of trees on either side of the fairway. Next is hole 11 is quite straightforward, but attention must be paid to the boundary fence. On to number 12 which is noted for its confusing green, but a good left drive should keep you on track. Hole 13 is the second par 3 and is said to be the most difficult due to the slopes on the green. Hole 14 follows on, providing a good opportunity to score as long as you drive well to the right. The 15th hole is a great eagle opportunity, particularly in the serene surroundings. Number 16 requires a careful shot to avoid the bunker in front of the green. Hole 17 is the signature hole at a par 3. A long hole, it requires the utmost accuracy and is rated as the greatest par 3 in South Africa. Finally you reach hole 18. This is certainly the most difficult with a dam and bush to the left, you need to keep your shot to the green well positioned.Visitors are welcome to hit a round at George Golf Club except on Wednesdays and Saturdays which are dedicated to members of the club. Both caddies and golf carts can be hired at the golf course. The Clubhouse has a number of convenient facilities such as change rooms, light meals, a lounge and a bar. The Pro-Shop sells a variety of excellent equipment and also handles equipment rentals. George Golf Club in the Western Cape certainly offers a unique and challenging day of golf.
