Monte Casino in Johannesburg was opened in November 2000. Since its opening it has become the most visited attraction in the province, averaging about eight million visitors a year. Because of all the positive feedback Monte Casino has received over the years, they are embarking on an addition to the complex. Monte Casino, have undertaken to build an extension, the Lifestyle Extension, to their magnificent world. The plans include another hotel, which can accommodate 180 guest, additional parking, five new restaurants, an open air piazza, and a Teatro that will seat 1 900 and entertain visitors with world class shows.
Currently the Monte Casino Complex is already breathtaking. The theme of the Casino being old Tuscan, the architecture is simply magnificent, and in the interior keeps you looking at blue skies, and peeping into the windows and lives of the permanent residents. Washing lines overhead, a police vehicle parked to the side of the road, cobblestone streets, and the odd ducks wading underneath the bridges, transport you to a completely different world and has you spellbound from the moment you enter.
If the architecture and pinpoint detail accuracy does not keep you entertained, there are 20 restaurants, a fifteen screen cinema complex, 76 retailers, children’s entertainment center, skate park, Monte Casino Bird Gardens and of course, the spectacular casino. Monte Casino is also host to the South African leg of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup Golf Tournament. This tournament has raised more than 6.2 million rand for the selected organizations.
The Monte Casino Bird Gardens, houses a collection of over 142 African Cycads species, the biggest in the world, and in total, over 1 000 reptiles, small animals and birds. All the animals are housed in their natural surroundings, and the walk through aviary, is the largest exhibit in Africa, of its kind. The Monte Casino Bird Gardens also has a free flight bird show that is guaranteed to thrill spectators.
