Alberton - Residential Area

The town of Alberton, located on the banks of the Natalspruit River near Johannesburg in South Africa’s Gauteng Province, is primarily a residential area with an excellent infrastructure providing all essential services to its residents. Having celebrated its centenary in 2005, Alberton started off as a small trading center and has spread to incorporate fourteen suburbs. The town has multiple routes to Gauteng’s major freeways allowing residents easy access to commute to nearby cities and industrial areas for work.

Alberton’ suburbs – Alberante, Albermarle, Alrode, Brackendowns, Brackenhurst, Eden Park, Florentia, Mayberry Park, Meyersdal, New Redruth, Randhart, Thokoza and Verwoerdpark – are spread out over a wide area, with shopping centers, parks, medical centers and schools conveniently placed. Alberton is home to the prestigious Reading Country Club incorporating an 18-hole golf course with a scenic woodlands layout.

Alberton’s history goes back to when a thirteen-year old boy named Johannes Petrus Meyer bought an eleven hectare portion of his father’s farm, where he later built a house and established a general store in 1890. The original house still stands today and many of Alberton’s streets are named after prominent Anglo-Boer War figures, but Alberton has without a doubt moved ahead with the times.
