Harrismith - Cultural and Historical

For a breathtaking cultural, historical and relaxing experience, there is a magnificent destination hidden in the Free State, named Harrismith. Named after Sir Harry Smith, a British Governor, and established in 1849, this charming town has become increasingly more popular with visitors, as they have discovered the beauty and unlimited number of attractions that the town has to offer.

Over and above comfortable accommodation, Harrismith has a number of adventure attractions for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy. Water sports are available at the Sterkfontein Dam, while the town is home to the oldest golf course in the country. Nearby reserves such as the Golden Gate Highlands National Park and Royal Natal Park, offer wildlife adventures and bird watching.

Other attractions and activities include trout fishing, Boer War battlefields, the Market Hall Museum, Debora Retief Garden, township tours, craft markets and a variety of historical buildings and landmarks. Harrismith is a small town that is bursting with activity and excitement.
