Faith

faith
(fth)
n.
1. Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2. Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief, trust.
3. Loyalty to a person or thing; allegiance: keeping faith with one's supporters.
4. often Faith Christianity The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will.
5. The body of dogma of a religion: the Muslim faith.
6. A set of principles or beliefs.

Ok i am an atheist and I have a question to the theists (people who belive in a personal god)

You have faith that that there is a god I'm assuming? and that is fine everyone has that option even though I don't personally agree. Why did you choose that religion? e.g. why Christianity over Islam or Jewish over believing in the Greek gods Zeus etc? Is it all faith, you have no evidence (see bold above) or is there something I'm missing. Most people don't believe anything without proof(religious people included) . I don't believe in Bigfoot, there is no proof, I don't believe in leprechauns or magic/witchcraft there is no proof. Why should religion be any different?

P.S. this is not an attack on religious people, I just want to understand why people choose the religion that they do and why (assuming there is no proof) they choose to believe somethings without proof and not others. If it is a likelihood thing then please explain why you feel god is more likely to exist than Bigfoot etc.

The Bible in fact gives the true definition of faith:

Hebrews 11:1: Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.

So in actual fact there is no such thing as blind faith. It is not believing without proof as some people think. How do we know God exists? Look around you. Look at the intricacies of the universe, the environment, the human body. If you look at a precision watch, you would recognise that someone made that watch, it didn't just appear from nowhere.
Look at the exact fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

I have never understood how people can claim that there is no God/Creator. I can understand how maybe some people become agnostic, believe God doesn't care etc. due to the world situation and they things they are taught. But if you look into the Bible the answers are all there.

Just some fun quotes from the bible, I know none proof god doesn't exist, but they do suggest god isn't so nice

Leviticus

20:9
If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.

20:10 If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.

Deuteronomy

22:20-1 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house.

Exodus
35:2
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

Ezekiel
20:25-26 I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and laws they could not live by; I let them become defiled through their gifts—the sacrifice of every firstborn—that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the LORD.

Ephesians

5:22-24 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Exodus

21:20-21 If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.

1 Peter

2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men.

2:18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

Leviticus

25:44-45
Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

Here are some my reasons for not beveling in the christian god

The bible also says that the world was made in six days, evolution contradicts that. The bible also says that there was a massive world wide flood, no proof for that. The bible also says god killed children. e.g. that story where god kills all the first born sons of the none believers (old testament, I think it is just before the splinting of the red sea ).... Is that a mercy full god like the bible says? The bible does have all the answers but none of them can be proved, But none of this has a point. I just want to no why have you chosen one god over anther, is it just a matter of faith (my definition)

Most believers do not choose their god. They just take over the god(s) their parents believe in and never doubt., because doubt is severely punished.
