Hi! I'm new to the forum. I'm from UK but my family are originally from South Africa and I remember my nan spoke Afrikaans so I'd like to learn it maybe over the summer. Just wondered does anyone knows of anywhere I can go to learn it?
Thanks a lot!
Deb
Gosh, I wish I could help, but I am in Texas and have no idea where you could find an Afrikaans teacher in England I personally know at least 9 Afrikaans speakers who live in London though. There is a huge population of Afrikaners. Perhaps you could find a tutor. Of course, you can post any question on this forum, and if I can, I'll answer them for you.
SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) of the University of London has a beginer and an intermediate course in Africaans. Kinda pricy. Go http://www.soas.ac.uk. Hope this helps
wow thanks for the response and help! I am currently studying in London and so following your advice I have looked into the SOAS option and shall hopefully start a course in the autumn.
I was actually intending an Afrikaans course in South Africa itself if you guys have any ideas???
Thanks so much!
If you are interested in learning Afrikaans in South Africa, you can contact me at any time.
I am a qualified language practitioner who teaches Afrikaans to expatriates (among others) in South Africa.
I'm currently doing research in the field of Afrikaans as Foreign or Second Language and I'm designing Afrikaans multimedia language courses for learners on different levels.
Some of the Koh Samui villas are set on peaceful hills adjoining sea. So, when a sea wave hits the big boulders below, you are actually able to experience some butterflies in your stomachs. Such is the experience of the exotic locales where these Samui villas are located. The villas are located in peaceful places, but not much far from action. You can anytime visit the flee market to buy exotic sea shells, or belts made from fish’s skin for you dear and near ones.
