Hy to all the people out there. I'm a Swiss female and I have to find someone who can give me some travel informations about Johannesburg, because I will be there in december 2002. I should know about the security of the youth hostels and about the most common attractions a tourist should visit.
Is it dangereous for a female tourist to travel around on her own?

Hi Nici,
JHB.... well perhaps go to Montecasino, even if you don't gamble it is quite a nice place. Sandton City if you want to go shopping. Rosebank Rooftop flea market on Sundays is great.

JHB city centre isn't worthwile, and I seriously reckon too dangerous for a female tourist on her own. I hear (haven't been) there are some tourist busses doing site seeing is Soweto. Once again I don't advise you just go there on your own. If you are keen on that, try to find out when and where the tour starts. Perhaps some SATOUR or some other South African tourist organisation can help you find out more.

About driving on your own. I guess if you know your way arround then why not, but as a tourist you are easy pray especially if you look lost and "touristy".

JHB gets better the further you get away from it.... hehehehe.. no seriously though, try to get a hotel in the northern suburbs or Sandton.

If you are into horses, go to Kyalami.

Also nice but about 100kms from JHB is the Hartebeespoort Dam. You can take a cable car to the top of the hills surrounding it and the view is quite good on a nice day.

Oh well that should keep you busy for a while.

Some of the Koh Samui villas are set on peaceful hills adjoining sea. So, when a sea wave hits the big boulders below, you are actually able to experience some butterflies in your stomachs. Such is the experience of the exotic locales where these Samui villas are located. The villas are located in peaceful places, but not much far from action. You can anytime visit the flee market to buy exotic sea shells, or belts made from fish’s skin for you dear and near ones.
