Hi everyone,
I'm a South African in Arizona & won't even start about missing home or fresh food, not to mention real 'vleis'!! Does anyone know of a real cool place in the south west or California that sells SA stuff, or has anyone tried the Online stores?
How I miss braais (mostly boerewors) at home, the US barbecues are so disappointing (hamburgers & salmon - frozen nogal). I promised my friends a REAL Braai the South African way when the semester's over, steak, chops, boerewors, Castle Lager, music & even pap!! Ha ha ha I hope I can get everything, now I'm beginning to dream. I haven't even seen a butchery in Tucson.
I don't know where their milk comes from or what cattle here eat. Back home when you leave fresh milk outside the refrigerator it gets rotten & turns into sourmilk -AMASI. Hhhmmmmmm now I miss that a lot & the one time I tried to do that here, instead of turning into amasi, the milk turned slimy & bitter. Homesickness is driving me a little bit crazy despite my collection of music & other stuff to pretend I'm in SA. I've been craving good food a lot lately & would like to hear from those who have tried the online food stores. I bet there will be some relevant places in Texas!
cheers all

Hi,, ek weet hoe jy voel! I'm from PE, currently living in Dallas Texas and I cant seem to find any SA foods!! So, instead i be different and tried mexican which is good. but hell, nothing comes to braaivleis en pap en wors. I did manage to get rooibostee and some KWV wyn, and a few sigerette brands. but that is as far as it goes. I know in New York City there's a Southafrican bar,or at least, so i've heard.
if i get any other info, i'll let you know
lekker kuier

Have you tried to make your own Boerewors??
Its quite easy and i make it all the time, all you need is a good foodblender and a coarse mince front, plus of course the goodies.
If you need an ospronklike recipe i can send you one.
Castle Lager we get here in Aussielans at last so i am soooo happy!!!
Lekker eet ou maat!

Try http://www.southafricans.com a store in Atlanta, then go to http://www.rsa-overseas.com and browse under onlinestore. With those sites you'll find one thing you want(for sure).I know how it's like to miss home, no matter how much you try to bring S.A. here it's still not the same.Check under the evnts/message board for more SA'ns in your area and gatherings u'll be surprise @ how many people feel the same way as you do.
