Sun City in South Africa is internationally famous as one of Africa’s leading holiday resorts, offering a myriad of relaxation and entertainment options, including gambling and golf. Set in beautiful surroundings, with sunny skies and close to wild game farms, this is truly a dream destination for holiday makers. Another excellent reason to visit Sun City is the Nedbank Golf Challenge which is to take place from 29 November to 2 December 2007. This annual invitation event is enormously popular with players as well as audiences, whether they are fortunate enough to be at the golf course, or have to content themselves with watching at home on the TV.

The golf course that is the venue for the Nedbank Golf Challenge, was designed by Gary Player, who is generally recognised as one of the greatest players in the history of golf. He has been instrumental in the design of golf courses all over the world and the Gary Player Country Club golf course at Sun City is well within international standards. The Nedbank Golf Challenge was inaugurated in 1981 under the name of “The Million Dollar Challenge” with $300,000 of the one million dollar prize going to the winner. Over the years the prize money, as well as the distribution thereof, has changed, but this still remains one of the richest tournaments in golf.

Being an unofficial tournament, The Nedbank Golf Challenge takes place after the PGA Tour and European Tour and before Christmas. The year 2006 was the first time that The Nedbank Golf Challenge has counted toward world ranking points. Nevertheless, this has never been a deterrent in the past, with many of the highest ranked players in the world participating and the level of expertise is impressive.

The 2006 Nedbank Golf Challenge was won by Jim Furyk who collected a cheque for 1.2 million dollars – the second time in a row that he has won the tournament. The line-up of the 12 players for 2007 will be decided on world rankings, but will include Jim Furyk as defending champion and Charl Schwartzel as the South African Tour Order of Merit Winner.
