The Delectable South African Cheese Festival

Bien Donné, the picturesque farm situated between Franschhoek and Paarl, will once again host the very popular South African Cheese Festival. The 2008 event will take place from 25 to 28 April, and it promises to be better than ever before with plenty to please the palate. Enjoy the country market atmosphere while savoring legendary South African cheeses and exciting new cheese varieties, together with olives, freshly baked bread and, of course, superb South African wine. Visitors will also be given the opportunity to compare South African cheese with Dutch, French and Swiss varieties.

Beginning as a three day festival in 2002 as an Agri-Expo event, the South African Cheese Festival has grown in size and popularity and is currently a four day celebration of the very best cheeses and related products that South Africa has to offer. Features of the South African Cheese Festival include the Checkers Cheese Emporium, hosted by one of South Africa’s leading chain store supermarkets. Exhibitors in this air-conditioned marquee will include cheese manufacturers, related food product stores and wine producers. Visitors will be invited to taste and buy the products being promoted. Manufacturers agree that the South African Cheese Festival is the perfect venue for introducing new products into the market with a view to getting feedback from consumers. So visitors can expect to have their taste buds tantalized by some extraordinary cheeses.

The Cheese Market and Fair Cape Market Square creates a festive country fair atmosphere for visitors to relax and enjoy their purchases. The Mall will be marketing fresh fruit, bread, home-made preserves, nuts and wine to complement the incredible variety of cheese on offer at the festival. Youngsters can look forward to being entertained at the Wilde Fruit Juices Kiddies Corner with activities presented by professional entertainers, as well as a jumping castle, face painting, coloring in competitions and lots more. Other features of the South African Cheese Festival include the Gourmet Lane, Ladismith Cheese Music Gazebo, The Absa Cheese and Wine Route, The Milk Factory, and The Surepure Cooking Pot, where visitors will discover many unusual ways that cheese is used in recipes.

The South African Cheese Festival offers four days of good food and entertainment in one of the most beautiful settings in the Western Cape. Whether you are a fan of all things cheesy or not, this is a family event on the South African social calendar not to be missed.
