The Bathurst Show

Every year hundreds of people flock to the small little town of Bathurst, situated just a few kilometers away from Port Alfred, for the annual Bathurst Show. This year the 98th Bathurst Show will be taking place on the Bathurst Showgrounds from the 7th to the 9th of April 2006. The show is one of the oldest surviving agricultural shows in South Africa and over the years has gained a reputation for being one of the province's premier agricultural shows.

Last years show had a record attendance numbers and even a few international visitors. As a result, the trading was excellent and the 2006 show is set to be bigger and better. A place where the whole family get together and enjoy the warm environment, the show regularly features items such as tractor rides, a touch-farm and numerous agricultural exhibits. There are also hundreds of stalls and a number of entertaining activities for the children to enjoy. The livestock on display gives the public the opportunity to see the biggest and best available and livestock auctions are held for the duration of the show. In addition to this, numerous equestrians come from all over the country to enter the various events and the horse show has a reputation for excellence.

To add to the atmosphere, there is a beer tent where adults can unwind. The show also features a number of live theatre performances which are entertaining to children and adults alike. This year the Irish Band 'The Leprechauns will be performing live on the 7th and 8th of April and all festival goers will have the opportunity to enjoy the show. The Bathurst Show has often been described as a place where 'town and country meet' and the results are enjoyable, fun for the whole family. Come early if you want to get parking! Tickets are available at the gate and are very affordable.
