Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectible Fair

The Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectible Fair sees the curious, serious collectors and exhibitors get together to enjoy the world of collectibles and to support the Germiston SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), to whom the proceeds are donated. It is an event for the entire family, and the next fair for this year, the Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectable Fair in Edenvale, Johannesburg, will be held on 5 April 2008.

The first Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectible Fair, in aid of the Germiston SPCA, was held in 1985, and the tradition has lasted. Most of the exhibitors have been supporting the fair every year since its establishment, but the fair organizers always try to invite new exhibitors to join and support them. Exhibitors pay a general fee of R80 per fair, and exhibitors who book for all the Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectible Fairs for the year, pay R60. Admission for visitors of all ages is free of charge.

The fair has many magnificent stores and stalls to browse through and visitors will be able to find the perfect gift or souvenir at this colorful event. Everything from rare collectors’ limited edition teddy bears to handmade porcelain dolls are on sale, together with delicate miniatures that have been created from wood, porcelain and brass. And it is never too late to start a collection or adopt the making of dolls and teddy bears as a hobby.

Workshops and classes in doll making, miniatures and teddy bears are available at the fair, as are exhibitors selling the parts, equipment and various materials needed to create these handmade items. Children are often overwhelmed by the sight of the rows of teddy bears and dolls and are often attracted to the miniatures, which they would love their parents to purchase for their doll houses.

Collectors and exhibitors from all over South Africa make the trip to Edenvale to show off their products or purchase new faces and miniatures for their collections. Snacks and refreshments are available at the fair and it takes place between 09:30 in the morning, until 13:30 in the afternoon. It is a fair that should not be missed by those who are looking for a new creative hobby, collectors and exhibitors. The Teddy Bear, Doll and Miniature Collectibles Fair not only assists exhibitors to expose their work to the public, but aids the staff of the Germiston SPCA who work tirelessly to protect the rights of animals and help those who are lost to find their way home.
