Leopard’s Leap Chandelier Mountain Bike Challenge

Leopard’s Leap Winery is not only known for its excellent wines, such as their Chenin Blanc (mentioned in the New York Times), but for their big hearts. The wine estate is involved in charity events, book clubs, conservation efforts and hosting golf challenges. Together with Chandelier Game Lodge and Ostrich Farm, Ton’s Sport and Cycle, Beveras’ and Dryland, they will be hosting the annual Leopard’s Leap Chandelier Mountain Bike Challenge in Oudtshoorn.

This exciting South African event will take place on Saturday, 6 October 2007, and entrants from all over the country will be flocking to this small town in the Eastern Cape, to join the fun. Race coordinators have ensured that the entire family can take part in this adventurous mountain bike competition, with four different events, each with their own difficulty level. The races start quite early, so cyclists are recommended to complete their entry forms ahead of time, or enter between 6 and 7:45 am on race day. As an incentive for early entries, a hundred race T-Shirts have been set aside for the first one hundred entrants, who will receive the shirts as a free gift for entering the 41 kilometer and 81 kilometer race. Racers that have entered early can collect their numbers and race registrations at Ton’s Sport and Cycle in Oudtshoorn.

It is definitely the beauty and racing routes that attract racers to the Leopard’s Leap Chandelier Mountain Bike Challenge, and this spectacular Oudtshoorn mountain bike event has become increasingly popular and encouraged riders to grab their mountain bicycles and hit the tracks. Mountain bicycle riders that can manage to spend four hours on their bikes and are relatively fit will easily be able to cope with the 81-kilometer track. It consists of a breathtaking jeep track that has spectacular views, while navigating gradual inclines and descents and a few technical challenges along the way. The 41-kilometer race accommodates all riders and takes approximately two hours to complete. It is also surrounded by magnificent landscapes, and riders will find it hard not to enjoy the scenery. For just an hour of huffing and puffing, the 21-kilometer is perfect. The ten-kilometer has been designed for children and adults that view their mountain bikes as garage accessories! It is a flat route that is perfect for getting out into nature and just having fun. And of course, there is a little prize money involved for the winners of the 81, 41 and 21-kilometer challenges.

Entrants into this fantastic Oudtshoorn mountain bike event, can find comfortable and luxury accommodation at the Chandelier Game Lodge and Ostrich Farm or on the neighboring Grootdoorn Rivier Farm. It is a wonderful family event for everyone to enjoy, so load up the mountain bicycles and remember the helmets, as safety is always first.
