Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees: KKNK

The Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) has been running annually for twelve consecutive years. Slowly growing in popularity and size, the festival takes place in the charming Klein Karoo town of Outdshoorn. The festival is primarily an Afrikaans culture festival, but there are a number of English events which make their way onto the program each year.

While the debate regarding the form and content of the festival continues to be waged, the 2006 KKNK already has a great lineup. There will be a wide range of more substantial works while at the same time the festival will include several commercially-orientated performances. The various performances will take place in no less than six informal venues. Festival-goers will be able to look forward to the very best in Afrikaans drama and music as well as culture. They will also be able to enjoy music performances that are not quite so closely linked to the Afrikaans culture. There will be a number of stalls dotting the town selling various items at great prices. Access to most informal venues is free. There is also a lot of children's theatre to help keep the little ones entertained.

This year the KKNK will take place from the 1st to the 8th of April 2006. The festival activities will culminate in a massive music-driven explosion called 'Kaktus Oppie Vlaktus' (cactus on the plains) where numerous South African artists will take the stage for an afternoon and evening of great music. Prices are still relatively low and the environment at the festival is generally quite family orientated. Accommodation is cheap to moderate and the whole festival experience is generally quite affordable. Book now through Computicket!
