Get Creative with Beadex 2008

Beading is becoming an increasingly popular hobby in South Africa. Some beaders make a living out of their craft, while others enjoy making beautifully beaded items for themselves, family and friends. Whichever category you fall into, be sure to get to Beadex 2008 at the Sandton Convention Center in Gauteng from 16 to 18 May 2008 to experience a kaleidoscope of beads, décor, fashion, jewelry, paintings, fiber art and much, much more.

This will be the second time that Beadex is being held, and after the resounding success of Beadex 2007, organizers are confident that Beadex 2008 will be even better, offering tons of inspiration to all who attend this exciting event. Beaders will be spoiled for choice when it comes to buying the wherewithal to create their own beaded items. Beads in glass, crystal, clay, wood, semi-precious gems, pearl, silver, in any shape and size imaginable, along with thread, findings, ribbons and more will be on sale. Pre-packed kits will be available, as well as daily demonstrations for first-timers who need assistance to get started in this fascinating hobby. Ready-made jewelry, from casual through to sophisticated, made by talented crafters will also be on display and for sale.

An exciting selection of hands-on workshops, covering a variety of techniques and skill levels, will be a prominent feature of Beadex 2008. Workshops include an Introduction to Glass Bead Making, Stone Chip Earrings, Pearls in a Pocket, Crochet Rope Necklace, Crystal Bracelet, Brick-Stitch Earrings, Peyote Bracelet, Fiber-Art Cushion and Fiber-Art Embroidery. A workshop focusing on using beads to facilitate learning will explore the possibilities for using beads of different materials, colors, shapes, designs and durability to unlock, through active participation, the creativity in students. A workshop on using beads to enhance healing will reveal how beading can be used as a tool to facilitate healing of body, mind, heart and soul.

A new addition to Beadex 2008 is the Lifestyle Hall, where visitors will find endless ideas on updating their home with the use of beads. Beaded cushions, lampshades, curtain tie-backs, beaded candelabra and serviette rings are just some of the items that will be on display. Visitors will also be shown how to set the trend with beaded garments, handbags and shoes.

Beadex 2008 is a family event and children will be entertained in Moyo’s Magic Garden where they can enjoy workshops, story-telling, drumming and plenty of entertainment. Using recycled products and beads, Moyo guides the young ones as they create their own masterpieces to take home.

The options at Beadex 2008 are limitless, so make a note to be there and let your creativity run wild.
