Equestria 2007 – An Event Not to Be Missed

Amid the hustle and bustle of city life in Gauteng, South Africa’s most populous province, animal lovers will be heading for the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Randburg from 30 November to 2 December 2007 for Equestria 2007. As the name suggests, the main focus of this event is on all things horse-related. The patron of Equestria, world-famous South African golfer Gary Player, himself a keen rider, sees this annual event as an ideal platform for showcasing local talent, as well as providing riders with the experience needed to compete at an international level.

South Africa’s finest horses, riders and show-jumpers will be showcasing their considerable talents at Equestria 2007. This horse show is a combination of outstanding indoor show-jumping, incredible specialized equestrian displays, as well as a choreographed pantomime – all with a festive season theme.

Competition events that are sure to get the adrenaline pumping, both for riders and spectators, include “The Knock Out” competition where South Africa’s top riders knock seconds off each others round times and the pace just keeps increasing. The Masters competition allows each rider who jumps a clear round to nominate to raise an individual fence and as the fence levels increase, so does the excitement. The highlight of the show is the Indoor Grand Prix of South Africa.

The Mounted Games Association of South Africa (MGASA) will be staging a competition with competitors aiming to win the coveted titles. This was a very popular feature of Equestria 2006 and 2007 promises to be even more exciting. The hugely popular dog agility events will also take place throughout the weekend.

Additional highlights of Equestria 2007 are an animal petting farm for the little ones and rides in a carriage drawn by a pony. Santa will be in his Christmas Grotto and children can have their photograph taken with him. Stunning works of art will be on display at the Equestria Art Gallery and there will be a retail market selling everything imaginable for horses and other animals, as well as a large variety of arts and crafts.

With an abundance of diverse and exciting things happening throughout the weekend, be sure to set aside plenty of time to spend at Equestria 2007. This is one of Gauteng’s top equestrian events that should not be missed.
