Bring Your Family Along to the Bloem Show

This year the Bloem Show will be its 125th anniversary. As one of the three biggest shows in South Africa, it is a festival of friends, family and entertainment that never disappoints. It will kick off on the 24th of April and ends on the 3rd of May 2008, with each day filled with excitement and activity. Visitors to South Africa should not miss out on the opportunity to join in the fun of this entertainment and agricultural festival.

The success of the Bloem Show, hosted in the city of Bloemfontein, is due to its unique combination of agricultural activities, massive exhibition areas and magnificent entertainment. Approximately a hundred and sixty thousand visitors attend the show each year, and for the 2008 Bloem Show there will be almost four hundred and fifty exhibitors. Exhibitors are not only from South Africa. The festival has brought interested parties and their exquisite goods from as far as Australia, Namibia, Kashmir, Swaziland, Pakistan and Egypt. Arts and crafts stalls, as well as home industry stalls, offer visitors a great selection of freshly baked pastries, handmade porcelain dolls, breathtaking flowers, art and many other unique products. There are more than enough food and refreshment stalls to ensure that visitors never go hungry or thirsty.

Several championships will be taking place in the agricultural section of the Bloem Show. Horses, cattle and small stock, like sheep, each have an opportunity to show off their best qualities and make their owners proud. Competitions, such as the SA Saddle Horse Championships, Tentpegging Championships, SA Mutton Merinos, SA Miniature Horses Championships, National Sheep Shearing Championships, SA Welsh Pony Championship, World Goat Show, Regional Jersey Championships, Regional Dairy Swiss Championships and SA Arab Championships, always draw a huge crowd. In the Pets Hall visitors will be able to get acquainted with smaller animals such as chickens, pigeons and different species of wild birds.

On the entertainment side of things, visitors can look forward to seeing artists such as Robbie Klay, Theuns Jordaan, Blackie Swart, Nicholas Louw, Chris Chameleon, Juanita du Plessis and Kurt Darren. Other activities include an air show, Big Foot exhibition, Miss Tropica Bloem Show Competition, a jazz evening, an amusement park, face painting, dancing, mimes, clowns, fire blowing and a kiddie’s hall to keep children entertained for hours with painting, baking, dancing and many other fun things. The Bloem Show, in Bloemfontein, is definitely a festival the entire family won’t want to miss.
