A Spectacular Adventure at Giants Castle

Kwa-Zulu Natal is known to have some of the most diverse wildlife in South Africa. Sightings of Hippo, Rhino, Zebra, Lion, Elephant, Wildebeest, Hyena, Nyala, Serval, Giraffe and Kudu are what attracts local and international visitors to this coastal region of the country. Nestled in the rolling hills of the breathtaking Drakensberg Mountains is a game reserve that offers guests the experience of a lifetime and a memorable adventure filled with spectacular sights, exciting wildlife encounters and luxury accommodation. The Giants Castle Game Reserve is the perfect destination to explore the beauty of South Africa and the Kwa-Zulu Natal region.

Located on approximately thirty-five thousand hectares, the Giants Castle Game Reserve was established in 1904 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the Drakensberg Mountains region. The varied escarpment and vegetation in the game reserve has led to the reserve being filled with spectacular wildlife, and in particular a wide and magnificent range of bird species, luring hundreds of avid bird watchers to the reserve each year.

Guests to the Giants Castle Game Reserve can look forward to seeing Cape Vultures, Bearded Vultures, Blesbuck, Jackal, Owls, Reedbuck, Duiker, African Crowned Eagle, Klipspringer and Verreaux’s Eagle. What makes the anticipation of catching a glimpse of the Bearded Vulture so exciting is that the only remaining two hundred breeding pairs of this species call the Drakensberg Mountains home.

Activities and attractions at the reserve include hiking, fishing, bird watching, day walks, The Lammergeyer Hide, swimming and guided tours of the pre-historic rock art left behind by the San people. The Main Caves Museum will give visitors greater insight into this fascinating group of people and shares some of the cultural history of the country with guests.

Besides the exciting activities and wildlife attractions of Giants Castle Game Reserve already mentioned, visitors will find photographic opportunities around every corner, be mesmerized by the wonderful views and experience true tranquility that only nature can give. Comfortable accommodation, friendly staff and the beauty of the landscapes wait eagerly to welcome guests and share their picturesque world with everyone who visits. Giants Castle Game Reserve is a most definitely one of the wildlife gems of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
