A Marvelous Journey on the Luxury Blue Train

The scheduled route of The Blue Train begins at the Pretoria Station at approximately 08:50 in the morning, stopping in Kimberley and arriving at the Cape Town Station at 12:30 the following day. Unscheduled routes, which take place on request, will take passengers from Pretoria to the Zimbali Lodge in Durban or from Pretoria to the Bakubung Game Lodge.

The famous Blue Train has been equipped to ensure that travelers enjoy the smoothest and most comfortable journey possible. Under floor heating, special braking and suspension systems, and air-conditioning in the suites and dining car provide guests with perfect traveling conditions at all times. Traveling at speeds of ninety kilometers an hour, the locomotives quietly pull their eighteen carriages past small towns, through magical forests, over the grasslands and bare Karoo and over the breathtaking cliffs covered in indigenous trees and plants.

Each suite on The Blue Train has either a shower or bath, custom designed beds, luxurious linen and technological equipment such as hi-fis to make passengers feel at home. The dining car provides passengers with the best South African cuisine, including snoek, Impala, Karoo lamb and crayfish dishes. Other meals, specifically Kosher, Vegetarian and Halaal, are available on request. There is a strict dress code to be adhered to on the dining car, with breakfast attire being casual, lunch is smart-casual and at diner, men are required to wear ties and jackets and women step out in their elegant and fashionable designs.

Other facilities on the train includes a first-aid personnel member for emergencies, mailing and faxing, cellular communication and a telephone service. The Blue Train strives to provide passengers with the ultimate in luxury, from marble floors and gold fittings, to the very best in dining and relaxation. For a journey through South Africa, accompanied by style and splendor, The Blue Train is most definitely an experience that will not be forgotten.
