Hoerikwaggo Trail - Adventure on Table Mountain
South Africa’s famous Table Mountain provides another incredible hiking experience called the Hoerikwaggo Table Mountain Trail. Here you have the pleasure of luxuries to make the Hoerikwaggo Hike a wonder in itself! All your accommodation is equipped with everything you need and serviced leaving little to have to worry about. This also includes a professional guide and porter. For every eight hikers a Hoerikwaggo Trail Guide and a lead guide will be provided, so you will be well cared for. At each camp there will be two four-sleepers and four two-sleepers so it would be advisable to book for either two or four people.
Day one is 7km or 6,5 hours long requiring that you be quite fit in order for you to be able to manage the steep inclines. You will first meet at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront at approximately 08h30. Before you begin your climb, your guides will take you on a tour, both by boat and by walking, through Cape Town’s diverse architecture among other things. At the end of the day you are invited to stay at the restored Platteklip Wash Houses on the bank of the Camissa River where you will meet your Hoerikwaggo Trail guides. On the lower slopes of Table Mountain you will spend your evening dining on an appetizing Cape Malay meal. Afterwards you can relax with a DVD, or just chat to your friends and fellow hikers.
Day two you will be hiking for 9,5Km or for 6 hours. But before you can attempt your strenuous walk you will be provided with a delicious continental breakfast to provide all the energy you will need for your journey. From there you will hike to the lower cable way station where you will catch a Cable car to the top of Table Mountain, weather permitting. From the upper cable station you will wind your way to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the Cape Peninsula, for a light picnic lunch. After your meal you will carry on the famous Smuts Track to the restored Overseers Cottage where you will stay the night. From this vantage point an incredible view of Cape Town can be enjoyed. At dinnertime you can enjoy a real traditional South African braai outside. However, if the weather is not favorable for an outside braai, it will be completed inside to safe guard against the start of fires in the dry bush.
